A couple of weeks ago I won a Teen Vogue essay contest and received their Teen Vogue Handbook: An Insider's Guide to Careers in Fashion. Being a faithful reader of the magazine forever, I was so happy. This is their brand new updated edition and I was super excited when I got the email from the headquarters stating that I won a copy! Getting a glimpse about all of the amazing fields in fashion is extremely interesting. It covers careers such as: designers, editors, digital media, stylists, models, beauty artists, photographers, and more!
It is unbelievable how many opportunities there are in the fashion world. A lot of people hear "fashion" and instantly think that the only people who work under that title are designers and runway models (don't even get me started about how many different styles of models there are beside runway)! Nowadays the internet has created a vast new realm of competitive jobs. Bloggers (yay!) are more influential than ever and have been taking over throughout media and major campaigns. Social media managers are literally masters at bringing attention to companies. Once something goes viral on Twitter or Instagram, the rest is history.
Realizing that college and total life decisions will be in a mere two years, I think it's important to start planning ahead way beforehand. Personally I think too many teens hide their best talents which is sad because your true self can get you so far. There are so many opportunities to get out there and achieve exposure and early skills in the field that interests you. No matter if it is so type of classes, joining a club, working on a self-project, or anything else; everything is a start!
No one ever believes how young I am and professionals often comment me on my maturity or for being amazingly different. I wouldn't necessarily define it as this, rather I would say that I just like to be myself because I am good at being me. Overall I find excitement in working hard and watching all of my dreams come true. I say what I think is right, making people smile makes me ecstatic, I cherish learning new things, and I believe originality gets you further than anything else! As the amazing beauty we all know and love, Coco Chanel, quoted in perfect simplicity:
